Indoor Active Opens

Cornwall’s first ‘Clip n Climb’ to Open at Cornwall Services
– New Zealand craze set to be a big hit in the county –

A climbing craze that started in New Zealand is coming to Cornwall with the opening of ‘Clip ’n Climb’ at Cornwall Services on 16 May. The service station, located on the A30 near Victoria, will be home to the county’s only such facility, which will sit alongside a huge Soft Play centre. The new activities – operating under the name Indoor Active – are aimed at locals and visitors alike.

Clip ‘n Climb is a Kiwi craze that is suitable for everyone from 4 years and up. The clever concept allows you to simply clip on to an automatic belay system and start climbing without the need for a partner, making climbing safe and accessible for everyone, from pre-school kids to retirees. It’s a safe and fun climbing experience based around a variety of themed challenges designed to offer a range of physical and mental tests.

Chris Rowlands, Manager for Indoor Active, explains:
“The nearest Clip ‘n Climb to Cornwall is in Exeter. Since it opened it has soared in popularity and we have heard of many Cornish residents heading up the A30 to have a go. We are so excited to be bringing the concept to Cornwall! We will have 15 climbing challenges and 14 individual climbing lines. The challenges on offer include the Leap of Faith, Stairway to Heaven, Skyscraper, Checkerplate and the Vertical Drop Slide. It is a brilliant way to enjoy the challenge of climbing in a safe, accessible environment and it really does appeal to everyone, whether it’s a group of primary school children or employees on a team bonding day out.”

Mark Upton from Cornwall Services adds:
“When we opened the services last July we were clear that we wanted to attract both tourists and Cornish residents to use the facilities. We didn’t want to simply replicate what other service stations do across the country, but instead wanted to do things a bit differently. These new attractions offer something that will appeal to both locals and visitors year-round.”

The new Soft Play centre will be located next to Clip n Climb. The three floor purpose-built attraction will offer over 1,500 square ft of fun for children aged 0 to 11. The bespoke Soft Play has been specifically designed to fit in one of the units at Cornwall Services and will be one of the tallest in Cornwall. It offers a range of elements, from a ball pool and double slide for toddlers on the ground floor level, to rope bridges, climbing nets and a maze run on the next 2 levels.

Indoor Active is also collaborating with other existing tenants at the services to offer a food and drink menu that can be ordered from within the Indoor Active area. Sausage & Roll and the Open Oven Pizza both use fantastic, local Cornish ingredients to produce top quality food, be it a gourmet hot dog or a delicious pizza cooked in a clay oven. They will be developing a fantastic hot food menu, as well as delicious barista coffee and an array of cakes, which can be delivered straight to your table.

Claire Cole, Operations Manager for Indoor Active, adds: “Working with some of the food businesses already on site means that we can offer things like fully catered kids parties and even corporate away-days where businesses take over the whole of Clip n Climb and then enjoy a team lunch. It’s an exciting time for us all!”
